Peter J. deGorter

Peter J. deGorter | Vice President | DeGorter Inc.

Resilient and hard-working, Peter J. deGorter has excelled in his role as vice president of DeGorter Inc. since 2016, helping to lead a family-owned and operated business that stands as one of the most successful providers of glass equipment and supplies in the industry. Originally founded in 1922 by his great-grandfather as an importer of glass, his grandfather, John, reshaped the company’s focus toward services in glass processing equipment. Mr. deGorter’s father, Peter, and his uncle, Daniel, followed in their father’s footsteps and took over the company after his passing.

Mr. deGorter worked for the family company as an inventory manager of purchasing, a marketing assistant, and ultimately a marketing director between 2007 and 2016. The trajectory of the company’s succession plan changed completely in 2017 when his father passed away unexpectedly—leaving him in charge of the entire operation alongside his uncle. Since 2018, under his leadership, the company’s size has doubled—he initiated a reorganization, changed business strategies, and built a robust, reliable, and dedicated team, all of which led to a growth in sales and success like never before. His proclivity for business and marketing has been reflected in his contributions as a blog writer for Glass Magazine and long-running membership with the National Glass Association.

Looking toward the future, Mr. deGorter strives to restructure the company, organizationally, to ensure that plans moving forward are protected in case of an unforeseeable event. He also hopes to reach a particular mark and achieve the company’s financial goals. In addition, he wants to keep the company’s ownership inside the family in honor of its legacy and eventually pass it down to four more generations. Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. deGorter has been active as a speaker across numerous conferences and events; a volunteer and donor for the Special Olympics, the local police department, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, and National Write Your Congressman. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, which he earned from the University of North Carolina in 2012.
